Doing It Yourself
Most of Brentwood went up around 2003, which means the garage doors on these streets are factory steel sectional doors on galvanized track, not the older wood or fiberglass panels you'd find in an older subdivision. The rollers that shipped with them are usually plain steel wheels on a stamped stem, no bearing, no nylon tire. You can pop the bottom bracket bolt and swap a roller yourself if the door is down, the spring is intact, and you're only dealing with one or two worn wheels on a single-car door. What you shouldn't do is work on a roller near the bottom bracket while the cable is under tension, or try it solo on a double-wide door - the panel is heavier than it looks and the track can rack out of alignment fast. If more than three rollers on one side are chewed up, that's usually a sign the whole run needs doing at once, and that's a job better handed off.
How to Book
We run out of Walnut Creek, about 18 miles from Brentwood, so there's no local branch or truck parked nearby - just a scheduled visit. You can check your address against our listed coverage area and set up a time. If your house is one of the many built around 2003 in this part of town, mention that when you call - it helps us bring the right roller stems and brackets instead of guessing at what's on the door.
How Long It Takes
A straight roller swap on a single door, all ten rollers, usually runs under an hour once the tech is on site. Add time if the bottom brackets are rusted onto the track or if the door needs a full balance check afterward, which we do anyway on any job involving the roller run. Because we're coming from Walnut Creek, factor the drive into when you can expect someone, not the repair time itself - once the truck's there, roller work is one of the quicker jobs on the list.
What Can Go Wrong
If the track itself is bent or the rollers wore unevenly because one side of the door has been out of plumb for years, a roller swap alone won't quiet the door down - we'll tell you that up front rather than sell you ten new rollers that still rattle on a crooked track. We also don't carry every oddball bracket size on the truck; if your door uses a non-standard bottom bracket, we may need to order the part before finishing the job. That's rare on housing this age, since most of Brentwood's stock uses a handful of common builder-grade tracks, but it happens.
