Doing It Yourself
A lot of what goes wrong with a garage door is safe to look at yourself before anyone drives out. Check that the track bolts are tight, that the photo-eye sensors near the floor are clean and aimed at each other, and that nothing is binding where the rollers ride. If the door is a steel sectional panel on a torsion spring above the opening - which is what most houses in this part of town have, since the stock here mostly went up around 2003 - do not touch the spring itself. Torsion springs are wound under real tension and a slipped winding bar has put people in the hospital. Swapping a remote battery or re-aiming a sensor is a five-minute job. Adjusting spring tension or pulling a broken cable off a drum is not a DIY repair, full stop. If the door won't move, drops unevenly, or the opener grinds and stops, that's a call, not a project.
How to Book
We run out of Walnut Creek, and Brentwood is the far edge of where we go - about 18 miles out. That's not a problem, but it does mean a call here gets scheduled into a route rather than squeezed in on the way past, so booking ahead works better than a same-day ask. Tell us what the door is doing (won't open, makes noise, hangs crooked) and roughly how old the opener or spring is if you know it, since that narrows down what we bring on the truck. You can see what we cover out this way on the Brentwood coverage page, and the full rundown of what we handle out of Walnut Creek is on the main service page.
How Long It Takes
Most spring or opener jobs take under two hours once we're on site. The honest part is the drive: at 18 miles each way, getting to Brentwood and back eats time that doesn't happen on closer jobs, so we're not able to promise the same tight same-day windows we can offer nearer Walnut Creek. If a part needs to be special-ordered - which happens more here than you'd think, because some of the opener models installed during the early-2000s building boom are discontinued and their gear kits aren't something every supplier stocks - that adds days, not hours. We'll tell you up front if that's the case rather than guess at a date.
